Final, Free-Choice Painting Reflection: May, 30th 2013
1. My final project is a picture of an elephant. I just used a canvas, acrylic paint and water. It took me about 8-10 hours in and outside of class.
2. I think the good parts of my project are the details and values, because it makes the elephant look realistic.
3. I could have done a better job with the background, because in some places the white of the sky got on the ears.
4. I painted a picture of an elephant in greyscale, and the lack of color and largeness of the animal shows power and strength.
5.The important elements in my project are value and space. The value is shown in the many different shades and tints of black and white. The space is emphasized because the elephant looks large against the background.
6. The most important principles are emphasis and unity. The amphasis is shown because your eyes are drawn to the elephant. The unity is shown because the whole painting is in greyscale.
7. I learned that you have to manage your time well in order to get things done in time.
8. First I found a picture that I wanted on the internet. Then I got a canvas assembled and gessoed. After that I sketched out my design and started painting the elephant. Once my elephant was finished, I painted the backgound.
9. My project was planned because I knew exactly what I wanted to paint. A challenge that I faced was when I needed to decide what to do with the background. After a little experimenting I decided on the cloudy look.
10. I think that this is a worthwhile project because I like the freedom it gives you. I will probably paint over the summer, but I am not sure what it will be of yet.
